Riverside Walkway

Children's Playspaces
Gateway Landmark

The proposal places access to the river at its heart. The plan includes new moorings, 60 homes, leisure space, new foot and cycle paths and a new clubhouse/gymnasium. With play areas, park space and a contemplative bird hide, the emerging plans propose a diverse mix of uses to create a sense of community at the site.
The new homes will be high-quality, sustainable and designed around concepts of multi-generational planning and co-housing. Elements like shared open riverside spaces will encourage greater social cohesion between residents and improve well-being.
All parking has been designed to be out of view from the riverside, either situated beneath under crofts and buildings within the development, or hidden behind rows of houses and the existing flood defence.
THREE DISTINCT AREAS
NEW AMENITIES
Strong, resilient, friendly communities are built on shared spaces, which is why the proposed development introduces a myriad of community-focused amenities that can be enjoyed by people of all ages.
The new playground seamlessly connects into a boarded riverside promenade, which wraps around the new gym/clubhouse. These mixed spaces give everyone access and a sense of ownership to their area; leading to a more desirable and higher-quality of life.
So, whether someone is looking for a social space to gather and soak up some evening sun, or a quiet corner to watch migrating birds, the development will have something for everyone.
NEW PLAY AREAS
Taking its lead from the site’s past life as a timber quay, the playground equipment has been chosen to mimic the design of a timber ship washed ashore, along with the driftwood found in the salt-marshes and mudflats. These choices engage children to interact with their new home and connect families to their environment.
The use of continuous flooring throughout the site unites the playscapes as integral part of the design, creating a safe, welcoming environment for everyone.
